Kinsale Cyber Safety Team

The Cyber Safety team recently visited the Kinsale Active Retirement Association to provide essential cybersecurity education tailored for older adults navigating today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape. Supported by Research Ireland in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre, Ireland (NCSC-IE), the team’s mission is to equip seniors with the knowledge and tools to stay safe online.

During the session, the Cyber Safety team introduced a Cyber Safety Information booklet filled with practical tips for maintaining online security. Key topics covered included identifying and avoiding scams, understanding privacy settings and cookies, reporting hacking attempts, and best practices for creating and managing passwords. To make the learning experience interactive, the team incorporated engaging activities such as password gamification, which reinforced the importance of strong password habits.

This initiative is part of the team’s broader effort to empower vulnerable groups, especially older adults, to confidently and safely navigate the digital world. The session concluded with refreshments and an opportunity for informal conversations with the association’s members, fostering a sense of community and support.
