This is a great opportunity for young cyber security professionals on the island of Ireland. If you know of anyone who might be interested, please share the info as much as you can as we want to find Ireland's best Cyber Talent. The competition takes place on Ireland's only Cyber Range infrastructure and will be fully online, so competitors only need a browser to compete and can compete from anywhere across the country.

A cyber range is a world-class state-of-the-art cybersecurity platform, available through Cyber Skills, Ireland’s only cybersecurity education provider to use this state-of-the-art infrastructure. The Cyber Range provides a secure, sandboxed virtual interactive environment that can simulate real-world feel scenarios and environments, including complex IT environments and attacks on IT infrastructure, networks, software platforms and applications. As a result, a cyber range infrastructure provides the required environment to test the competitors on all aspects of cybersecurity and enables challenges that require real-world applicable skills. The cyber-range will test the competitors’ skills by simulating cybersecurity attacks and provides the competitors with a realistic experience when combatting threats and solving challenges.

The preliminary competition will run on the following dates and competitors just need to compete at one event.

  • Friday May 26th 4pm to 8pm
  • Saturday May 27th 9am to 1pm

Entry form: https://lnkd.in/er4r6Nzf

The competition will consist of several challenges including Enterprise Infrastructure Security; Cyber Security Incident Response, Digital Forensic Investigations, and Application Security; and Capture-The-Flag (CTF) Challenges.

Rules:

  • Competitors must only compete in one preliminary competition.
  • Competitors must be born in 1999 or later.
  • Competitors must be either studying or working on the island of Ireland.

The top competitors from all the preliminary competitions held will compete at the RDS in September in the National Final and compete for the 2023 Silver Medal. The National final will also be the Team Ireland Selection event for the next World Skills International Competition.

Last year, two of the top competitors went on to represent Ireland and competed in Skill 54 - Cybersecurity at the 46th WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition in Goyang, South Korea. They were the first team to represent Ireland in the cybersecurity skill! This year we are looking for the next Team Ireland and it all starts with the Preliminary on May 26th! This is a great opportunity to represent your country in the world skill’s competition.

The team will be led and coached by Dr George O'Mahony of Cyber Skills and Computer Science MTU. Any questions, please contact the World Skills Ireland Expert for Cybersecurity - Dr George O Mahony - georged.omahony@mtu.ie

Once you have completed this form, Dr George O Mahony will contact you with details on the competition on the week of May 15th.
