Muzaffar Rao, Assistant Lecturer cyber security courses

Assistant Professor Muzaffar Rao is celebrating his second batch of students from the University of Limerick's Professional Diploma in Operational Technology Security program who are about to graduate. This is a part-time course which starts in September, for one academic year. By the end of this level nine course, participants will earn a professional diploma, offered in partnership with Cyber Skills. Dr. Muzaffar Rao, a lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering in the University of Limerick, has been with the Cyber Skills project since April 2021. His expertise spans various fields, including BitW (Bump-in-the-Wire) security, IoTs, robotic automation, cyber-physical systems, and IT/OT integration in smart manufacturing. His depth of knowledge and commitment has significantly contributed to the success of this program.

The Professional Diploma in Operational Technology Security is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to protect your organization’s industrial control systems and other critical infrastructure from cyber threats. It is ideal for those who directly or indirectly integrate OT and IT systems to support their Industry 4.0 standards. This part-time online program provides a solid foundation in integrated IT/OT technology, security risks, associated laws and regulations, and the potential threats to an organization. The cyber programs at the University of Limerick and Munster Technological University are the only upskilling programs in Ireland that are accredited and utilize a state-of-the-art cyber range. This next-generation cyber range allows you to train with real tools, real attacks, and real scenarios in a virtual environment. You'll be guided by experienced instructors who specialize in operational technology security. Career prospects for graduates are promising. With roles like Adversary Emulation Specialist, Penetration Tester, and Threat Hunting Specialist, salaries can range from €50,000 to €120,000 per year, depending on the role and experience.

Past student feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One student shared, "Real industry use, real scenarios, covering the full spectrum of OT and attack vectors. Before the course, I had no idea what a PLC was." Another remarked, "The complete course covered various aspects of OT cybersecurity, which was new to me since I had been working exclusively on controls for a long time. It was a pleasant learning experience. Everything was excellent." Students appreciate the course structure, which includes pre-recorded lectures, group discussions, and continuous assessments. The flexible format and comprehensive content ensure participants leave with a thorough understanding of operational technology security and the skills to advance their careers.

If you're interested in a career in OT security, this program at the University of Limerick offers a fantastic opportunity to upskill and prepare for the future.
