Cybersecurity Awareness Course for University Lecturers

In today’s digital world, protecting our teaching environments is more important than ever. As cyber threats grow and evolve, it’s vital for educators to stay ahead to safeguard our students and academic resources. To support this, we’re offering a specialized course focused on enhancing cybersecurity skills and ensuring safe technology use in education.

This open course was created by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in partnership with Dr. Anila Mjeda from Cyber Skills. This course is designed to equip university lecturers with essential knowledge and tools to protect digital classrooms and create a secure learning environment. This course is available to all staff currently working in tertiary education in the Republic of Ireland, subject to availability of places.

This free, online course starts on the 4th of October 2024.

Duration: 6 weeks, every Friday

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Total Hours: 25

Certification: Digital badge upon completion

  • Cybersecurity Fundamentals in Education: Understand key principles like data protection, encryption, and secure communication, and address ethical considerations in higher education.
  • Threat Mitigation: Learn strategies to protect against common threats such as phishing and ransomware attacks.
  • Securing Educational Software: Gain skills to configure and use tools like Zoom, Teams, and Virtual Learning Environments securely.
  • Best Practices: Implementing cybersecurity best practices within teaching and learning processes, including strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, and data encryption to minimize vulnerabilities and protect sensitive educational data.
