Thousands of students accompanied by their teachers and parents will descend on the RDS, Dublin from 25th to 27th September to see first-hand the wealth of career options available at WorldSkills Ireland 2024. WorldSkills Competitions are the gold standard of skills excellence. They inspire young competitors to reach new heights, helping them turn their passion into a profession.
Recognised in Ireland and internationally for its cyber security expertise, Cyber Explore at MTU is the proud sponsor of the WorldSkills Ireland Cyber Security Competition (Skill 54). This year, six young professionals will compete in the WorldSkills Ireland Cyber Security Competition from various universities and companies nationwide using the Cyber Skills’ state-of-the-art Cyber Range infrastructure. The competition will consist of several challenges including Enterprise Infrastructure Security; Cyber Security Incident Response, Digital Forensic Investigations, and Application Security; and Capture-The-Flag (CTF) Challenges, both red and blue team focused.
WorldSkills Ireland Expert for Cybersecurity, Dr. George O’Mahony, a Cyber Security Lecturer and Researcher from Cyber Skills at MTU will be the Chief Examiner. Competitors will also be examined and supported by Dr Dylan Smyth, a lecturer and researcher at MTU, as well as past competitor and Cyber Skills researcher Dean Brennan.
WorldSkills Ireland Team Cybersecurity has had great success at International WorldSkills events, including winning gold at the WorldSkills Global Skills Challenge 2024 in Australia and representing Ireland in Lyon, France at WorldSkills International 2024 and in Goyang, Korea at the 2022 Special Edition. Cyber Skills researcher Dean Brennan won the HEA silver medal at the WorldSkills Ireland Cyber Security Competition 2023 and was part of the team that represented Ireland at the 2022 Special Edition. Dean described the experience as “a phenomenal competition that truly tested every aspect of my IT and cybersecurity knowledge. I’m proud to have held my own in such a demanding environment.”
WorldSkills Ireland 2024 will see over 160 finalists compete across 30 live National Competition Finals and will be competing for the coveted HEA Silver Medal. WorldSkills Ireland 2024 will motivate the next generation of skilled individuals to pursue their passions, securing both their futures and Ireland’s position on the global stage.
